On September 20, “Adapt to climate change” contest aimed at schoolchildren was launched in the frame of UNDP-GCF Armenia’s National Adaptation Plan (NAP) project. The aim of the competition is to raise awareness among young people about climate change adaptation, increase their engagement in climate change negative impact mitigation and prevention actions, as well as in the development and planning of climate change adaptation measures.

The contest is open for schools and other educational organizations such as clubs, NGOs, specialized educational institutions, etc.

The competition will be held in three categories aimed at participants of different age groups:

• Photo or poster contest for 6-14 year olds

• Video contest for 14-18 year olds

• Project contest for 14-18 year olds

Contest submissions must relate to climate change adaptation issues, including hazardous weather events and disaster response; community resilience building; efficient use of water resources; prevention of human health problems; reduction of vulnerabilities in agriculture sector; forest preservation, fire prevention; biodiversity conservation; ecotourism development; use of nature-based solutions, etc.

The contest will be held in two stages:

• Application collection stage, during which educational institutions must submit a maximum of two entries per category. Deadline for submission is October 20, inclusive.

• Final stage, during which the expert committee will select up to ten best entries per category, which will then be presented during the closing event, where the winners will be selected and announced. The final event will be organized until November 15, 2021.

To participate in the contest online application should be filled in and submitted together with relevant documents.

On September 28 and October 8, UNDP-GCF NAP project experts will hold consultative meetings explaining details of entry requirements, preparation and relevance. All willing can register online, filling in the application.  Details of the meeting time and format will be communicated additionally to those registered.
